SHA BASKETBALL CLASS MM TITLE CHAMPIONS

April 6th, 2022

SHA BASKETBALL CLASS MM TITLE CHAMPIONS

On Sunday, March 13, Sacred Heart Academy’s Varsity basketball team officially became Class MM state champions after defeating St. Joseph’s in a close game of 52-50 with the SHArks wining the CIAC finals. The team, led by Coach Jason Kirck, bring tremendous pride to the school with our first state title since 1993.

This accomplishment followed another extraordinary achievement by the team in February when they became Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) champions. A title the SHA basketball program had not seen in 26 years.

Their successes are felt with tremendous pride by our whole community but most of all by the student-athletes on this team. A special thank you to SHA seniors on the team, who have been striving towards this throughout their high school careers. Senior and co-captain Rosa Rizzitelli ’22 was named player of the year in the Class MM state champions, having a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds.

Other co-caption Carina Ciampi ‘22 summarized her four years playing SHA basketball and this year well perfectly saying, “Throughout my four years at SHA playing basketball, all the hard work and dedication paid off this season as we made history. Although it was not an easy road, the end reward and the sisterhood that was formed on and off the court will be with each of us forever. Sacred Heart Academy basketball is truly a blessing and although I will no longer be playing next year, it will forever be a part of me, and I will always be a part of the State Championship team of 2022.”

Congratulations to our 2021-2022 basketball team! We are already looking forward to next season.
