SHArk Attack!! Winter Sports Highlights
March 3rd, 2022
SHA Athletics has earned one of the most decorated winter seasons in school history... and they are not done.
For the first time in 26 years, and only the second time in school history, SHA Basketball is the Southern Connecticut Conference Champion. The SHArks, the top seed in the tournament, defeated Daniel Hand 55-37 to claim the title. Meghan Kirck '24 was named WELI Player of the Game and Rosa Rizzitelli '22 was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament.
Before the game, Rizzitelli and Carina Ciampi '22 were honored as First Team All-SCC while Lauren Thompson '24 was honored as Second Team All-SCC. The team opens CIAC Class MM Tournament play this Thursday, March 3, at 6:30pm as the top seed. Let's go SHA Basketball!!
SHA Indoor Track & Field continued to foster its championship pedigree under the tutelage of Coach Pat Redding. The team, including many from the Cross Country State Championship team, took home the SCC West crown this season. More than twenty student-athletes went on to represent SHA in the SCC Championship Meet. Victoria Baker '24 qualified to compete in the High Jump at the Connecticut State Open and Avery Stewart '25 will represent the SHArks in the Freshman Division of the Indoor National Meet in New York City on March 12.
Despite the unfortunate, but necessary, cancellation of the SHA Competitive Cheerleading season, SHA Sideline Cheerleading has performed at the highest of levels all winter. Captains Kelsey Le '22 and Ashley Raccio '22 lead the team along with Head Coach Stephanie Redding. The squad brings talent, passion and enthusiasm to all performances and is a key cog in the championships won by both SHA and NDWH Basketball.
WH/SHA Ice Hockey experienced yet another impressive season under the guidance of Coach Erin Blake. The team, captained by Maya Boyhen '22, played a Division A schedule this year and competed against the best Ice Hockey teams across the state. They earned the second seed in the SCC Tournament and treated SHArk Nation to a thrilling championship game. While the SHArks eventually fell to Guilford 4-3 in overtime, all left the ice and the arena full of pride.
Maya Boyhen '22 was honored as First Team All-SCC this season.
Congratulations to all our current SHArks. You make all members of the SHA community, past and present, very proud.
